Episode 1: Hungarian with Sziszi

In this series of video interviews, I will speak with some of the Hungarian language teachers who helped me as I prepared for the Hungarian citizenship interview. I continue to study with many of these teachers today, as the learning process never ends!

In episode 1, I talk to Szilvia Papp, better known as Sziszi of Hungarian with Sziszi. I found Sziszi through her podcast and Instagram when I was searching for Hungarian language material to listen to. I really vibed with Sziszi’s style as it’s unique and fun! After taking her “video a day” Instagram challenge in January of 2021, I also joined some of her conversations clubs, and now am a member of her Patreon group.

Sziszi has a different approach to teaching Hungarian. It's very modern and current. When you learn with her, you get to speak about things you would talk about with your friends. And that helped me so much to begin to think in Hungarian--an important part of the language learning process.

I've prepared the interview in both English and Hungarian. I wanted to do these interviews in Hungarian to challenge myself and also to give other Hungarian language learners more material to listen to and practice.

A caveat: I make many mistakes, so please listen and learn from Sziszi, but not me, as I don't want to steer you down the wrong road. But I hope what you take from my is my willingness to give it a go and make mistakes. As Sziszi says, what is important is that we are communicating!
